# Regions

> Where apps and add-ons run.

Watasu runs in the **EU** today — all apps and add-ons are hosted in data centers in Germany, across multiple availability zones.

## App placement

You don't pick a region when creating an app; everything runs in the EU. The `--region` flag on `watasu create` exists for forward-compatibility — as more regions become available, the same flag will let you choose.

Once a process is scaled to two or more replicas, Watasu spreads them across separate zones automatically. See [Processes and Scaling](https://docs.watasu.io/apps/processes-and-scaling.md#multi-dc-placement).

## Add-on placement

Add-on plans encode their own placement:

* **Hobby and Standard single-node plans** run in one zone.
* **Standard replicated plans** (PostgreSQL with followers, Valkey with failover replicas, ClickHouse replicas, Redpanda clusters) spread across two zones.
* **Premium HA plans** add a third zone where the service supports it (for example Valkey Premium's disaster-recovery replica, Object Storage Premium's geo-replication).

You don't configure any of this — it comes with the plan. See [Add-on Plans](https://docs.watasu.io/reference/addon-plans.md).

## Data residency

All customer data — app images, databases, backups, logs, metrics, traces, and object storage — stays within the EU.
